Parent information
Some children are arriving very early to school. School is not open until 8.30am. The children are unsupervised. Your child must remain in the front of the library until the bell goes at 8.30am. It is very cold some mornings and there are a lot of wee 5 year olds sitting outside in the cold :-(
Please also be aware we have an early staff meeting on Mondays and sometimes this overruns.

Homework
Reading
A reading book comes home every night (Monday to Thursday). Please read this with your child, sign their notebook and return to school in their reading folder the next day. If your child does not return their book - a new one will not be issued. Any lost or damaged books must be paid for. On Friday your child will bring home their Poetry Anthology - please read this with your child and return on Monday.
Phonics
Your child has been issued with a "sound book". Please leave this in their reading folder as we sometimes use this at reading time. Please go over one or two sounds every night - naming the sound and the letter of the alphabet and any objects that begin with that letter. You may like to get your child to draw some things or cut out pictures from magazines to go with this. Please encourage them to write as much as possible!
Early Words
Your child will be taken for "Early Words" about three times a week. Please complete the homework sheet and return their book daily to the basket in the classroom. Once your child has finished this programme, please keep the book. It is useful if you could write out these words on card and make "silly sentences" with them. Your child could also learn to write and spell these. Learning the words for numbers is also helpful eg ten.
Maths
Children need to recognise the numbers. Please go over the symbol and names of the numbers - 0-5; 0-10; 0-20 and then 0-100 and beyond. You child will need to learn to order the numbers independently; count forwards and backwards from any number and say what comes before and after a certain number. Practice writing the numbers correctly. See the links below for more ideas.
Writing
Please encourage your child to write at home regularly eg shopping lists. Your child should be able to write their name before they start school. See the link below for more ideas.
